Letters, 1843-1859, pertaining to slavery and slave hiring in Virginia [manuscript].

On December 16, 1843, W.P. Goodwin, Rose Hill, Va., writes to James M. Beazley about a delinquent account partially caused by his slaves' poor management of the tobacco crop. On May 27, 1859, John B. Winfree, Woodlawn [near Petersburg], Va., writes to his brother Christopher V. Winfree, Lynchburg, Va., to discuss plans for recently inherited slaves, the hiring out of a slave and the refusal to hire out a female slave for factory work.
